By participating in Scotiabank and BC SPCA Paws for a Cause you're helping us continue to speak for those who can't speak for themselves. The BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for 37,000 animals each year through its 41 facilities and operations across B.C. The society also conducts more than 5,870 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals.

2009 Scotiabank and BC SPCA Paws for a Cause was a huge success raising an amazing $1.1 Million for animals in need of care, shelter and love. This year is going to be even bigger and better!

Update: Marcie Freed!

Most animal lovers in B.C. already know that Marcie Moriarty, general manager of cruelty investigations for the BC SPCA is a hero to homeless, injured and abused animals. On August 26 she reaffirmed her hero status by being locked in a kennel at the Vancouver shelter in an effort to raise awareness and much needed funds for the cruelty investigations department.

Her goal original goal was to raise $2,500 in donations before she could be "freed" from her kennel. Thanks to a many generous gifts submitted by friends and supporters, Marcie not only reached her goal but beat it four times over!

We are delighted to announce that Marcie raised just over $10,000 in support of the 2010 Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause… Walk for the Animals.

Marcie Kennel Lock In

A very special thank you goes to everyone who made a donation and joined us for a veggie burger BBQ, Ask a Vet and Ask a Trainer activities. Marcie and Bogey spent two hours in a kennel as promised, but were incredibly happy to be set free knowing that their "time" helped to raise so much for BC's most vunerable animals.

If you wish to support Marcie's Paws for a Cause page and help the cruelty investigations department, please visit spca.bc.ca/marcie to make a donation.

For more information, read our original news item.

The BC SPCA is the only animal welfare organization in the province with the authority to investigate animal cruelty and yet we do not receive any funding from the government to carry out our life-saving work. Last year alone, the BC SPCA spent more than $2 million to perform cruelty investigations and bring abusers to justice. This work was entirely supported by our generous donors.

You can join Marcie and help raise money to support the nearly 37,000 animals receive care and protection from the BC SPCA each year. Register today at spca.bc.ca/walk. Your support could save a life.
